Schertz PD investigating shots fired along I-35, search for suspects continues

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — If it sounds like a familiar story, this is because it might be.

It was less than two weeks ago the Schertz Police Department responded to a call about shots fired in a neighborhood along I-35, and on Thursday more shots were fired in the same area.

In a release, SPD says the most recent shots are related to more that were fired on June 30. In the previous shooting, two of four people in a car later found with bullet holes were hurt. On Thursday, a 911 call came in before 4 a.m. about shots fired in the 6000 block of Covers Cove. This is the same area where investigators think the previous shooting got started.

Police secured the area and further actions are now being taken to stop the gunfire from happening again.

“Residents will absolutely see an increase in police presence as the Schertz Police Department will have directed patrols and a pole camera deployed to help restore this residential area back to a state of normalcy as we are collaboratively working with local and federal partners to identify and apprehend the suspects,” said Police Chief
Jim Lowery.

No injuries were reported in the most recent shooting.

This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Schertz Police Department at 210-619-1200.
