Sean Rima: “The Wrinkled Bathrobe of Zorro.”

One of my personal favorites..

The Wrinkled Bathrobe of Zorro.

It is a true damn thing
that when I was failing
Spanish class in the
eleventh grade,
in 1984,
in Maryland,
my Spanish name

was El Zorro,

and though it has
been many years since
I donned the black mask
in the service of the
poor, suffering
people of
Mexico,

tonight,

once more,

I take up my sword
and my whip, as my wife,
sitting on the couch
with a sprained
ankle, asks,

“Baby, can you get me
another Dr. Pepper
from the fridge?”

and I leap from my chair,

and Zorro rides again.
