SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Singer/Songwriter Nanci Griffith has died.
Griffith was known as a folk music artist but she did have a handful of songs hit the Billboard Country charts, including 1987’s “Lonestar State of Mind” and “I Knew Love” in 1988.
Her songs were recorded by other artists as well. In 1986, Kathy Mattea had a top 5 with “Love at the Five and Dime”.
Griffith was a Seguin native who spent years performing in and around Austin before settling in Nashville.
She released 18 studio albums between 1978 and 2012.
Her management says it was Griffith’s wish that there be no further formal statement for a week after her passing.
Griffith who died Friday was 68 years old.
