SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) -Sen. Ted Cruz has fired off a letter to Attorney General William Barr asking the Department of Justice to investigate Netflix for its distribution of the French film “Cuties,” which he termed ‘chid pornography.’

The film is about an 11-year-old  French-Senegalese girl named Amy who joins a group of dancers called “The Cuties.”  She’s torn between her strict Muslim upbringing and the internet culture.

Netflix has drawn criticism for the film, which shows the young girls performing suggestive dance routines in revealing costumes.

“The film routinely fetishizes and sexualizes these pre-adolescent girls as they perform dances simulating sexual conduct in revealing clothing, including at least one scne with partial child nudity,” Cruz wrote in his letter to Barr.

Since the release of  ‘Cuties,’ detractors have launched a petition on Change.org, vowing to cancel their Netflix accounts.

Netflix is defending the film as a “social commentary against the sexualization of young children.”

Cruz wants the DOJ to investigate whether anyone involved in the film “violated any federal laws against the production and distribution of child pornography.”
