SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A suspected rapist is dead after being shot and killed by a San Antonio police officer.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says the man was being followed by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Wednesday night when he pulled into a Walmart gas station on Southwest Loop 410 near Ray Ellison Boulevard.

“He got boxed in by the task force members. We approached the vehicle and an SAPD officer wound up firing a shot, striking the suspect,” said SAPD Chief William McManus.

He says the SAPD officer, who’s a member of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, saw that the suspect had a long rifle with a drum magazine.

“The officer felt compelled to use deadly force, fired, I believe one time, at the suspect,” said McManus.

The man, who was being sought in connection with an aggravated sexual assault Monday, died at a hospital.
