If you were owed money, would words be good enough?

Because, for my whole life, I’ve heard people in politics “call for” slavery reparations to either all African Americans, by some formula, or to targeted descendants of slaves.

Putting aside how you feel about that, have you ever noticed that the “callers for” never actually do it?

Yes, some limited, specific reparations have been paid, such as by the trustees of Georgetown University. It was their money, their decision.

But it looks to me like the only reparations that will ever happen on a national scale will be politicians talking about it.

Whenever they’ve had the power, the majority, they’ve never gotten around to doing it.

Looks like it’ll be paid in words.
