South Padre Island expecting busy Memorial Day weekend

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Tourism professionals are expecting a busy weekend on South Padre Island this Memorial Day.

The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau said it is expecting an increase in visitors this summer, in line with trends forecast by AAA.

“We’re projecting a busy and active Memorial Day holiday weekend, as bookings are ahead of last year and our local businesses are making preparations for a variety of family-friendly activities and attractions,” said South Padre Island CVB Director Ed Caum. “With new developments and expanded offerings, the Island is poised for a busy summer season, especially for family vacations.”

The bureau said Memorial Day weekend figures are usually good indicators of how the year will be for the island.

It said more lodging rooms have been added to allow for more overnight visitors along with more food options with new restaurants opening.
