South San Antonio ISD Board votes to close 3 campuses

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Three South San Antonio ISD campuses will be closed.

The Board of Trustees had to make a decision on what to do about the schools with declining enrollments.

At Wednesday night’s meeting, the board voted 5 to 2 in favor of closing the campuses.

Athens Elementary, Kazen Middle School and Kindred Elementary have been recommended for closure.

Now the Superintendent will have to decide when to close the schools and where staff and students will be reassigned.

The district is currently dealing with a $12 million general fund deficit and a loss of 2,000 students in the last 10 years.
