Sports stadiums in downtown a hot topic this week in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — If the future goes as expected, downtown San Antonio could like quite different in just a few years, and that difference comes with a hefty price tag.

A new stadium for the San Antonio Missions is moving forward after a green light given by both Bexar County and the City of San Antonio. Part of this plan revolves around land owned by the San Antonio Independent School District.

The question is whether the Missions can meet numerous demands put forth by SAISD to get access to the land.

The proposed ballpark has an estimated cost of $160 million.

An SAISD board meeting is happening Monday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss that matter, and public comment will be included.

The San Antonio Spurs may not be the powerhouse team it used to be, but that is not stopping the NBA franchise from having interest in a new arena for itself.

It appears the City of San Antonio has been secretly planning a new sports and entertainment district under the code name ‘Project Marvel,’ and this comes with an estimated price tag of between $3 and $4 billion dollars. Plans are said to include improvements to the Alamodome, and possibly a new arena for the Spurs.

KSAT-12 reports a special meeting of council members will happen on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
