SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Storms late Sunday and early Monday ripped through the San Antonio area and left a path of destruction in areas north of us.

Tens of thousands of area homes and businesses were left in the dark in the Schertz-Cibolo area , including the HEB Plus store on Interstate 35 at FM 3009. The storm knocked down a tree in the parking lot and damaged some outdoor merchandise and displays, while employees inside were trying to refrigerated and frozen food items.

The store had not open as of 7:30 and employees said they did not know when the store would reopen.

Several other businesses and homes along FM 3009 east of Interstate 35 also were affected by the storm. Some patients were being treated at the Schertz-Cibolo Emergency Clinic when the lights went out.

“We were checking out patients when the power went out and we saw sparks,” said Kristen Martinez. The tree knocked down a huge tree behind their property and knocked it onto their back parking lot.

Fortunately, the emergency generators came on.

“We were able to get the patients out of here safely and get them into their cars,” said Martinez.  The clinic, which is open 24/7, remained open during and after the storms.

Employees , business owners and residents  in the area are hoping to get the lights back on and get trees and other debris off the road.
