Strong waves take out part of Galveston’s 61st Street Fishing Pier

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Strong waves caused by Tropical
Storm Beta took out a section of the 61st Street Fishing Pier in Galveston Sunday night. The damage occurred Sunday evening, well ahead of the storm’s predicted landfall Monday evening.
The National Weather Service posted video by Saltwater-Recon.com, which shows the rough, choppy waters slapping the pier as part of it collapsed. Workers tried to save the sturdy portions by separating the section that washed away.
Here is a video of the end of the 61st Pier breaking off and floating away shortly after 10pm tonight.
Conditions will only continue to deteriorate through the night. #HOUwx #GLSwx #Beta #txwx
