Suspect critically wounded in shootout with police at Bulverde Oaks Apartments

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) -A man accused of firing at San Antonio police officers with a gun and a shotgun has been critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire.

Police responded to a family violence call around 9:20 Friday night at Bulverde Oaks Apartments.  Chief William McManus says when the first officer arrived at the complex on Canyon Parkway, a woman on the balcony told him that her boyfriend had a knife and a gun.  Then her boyfriend went out on the balcony and started shooting at the officer.

A second officer arrived and the 27-year-old suspect emerged from the breezeway and exchanged gunfire with the officers.  McManus says the man was shot 3 to 5 times, but the wounds are not believed to be life-threatening.  No officers were wounded.

The 22-year-old woman had facial injuries, and a two-month-old baby, who was in the apartment the whole time, was unharmed.

About a dozen vehicles in the parking lot were struck by bullets.
