Suspect with numerous warrants arrested after neighborhood shootings in Schertz
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Schertz Police Department may have taken a significant step toward solving two recent shootings in a neighborhood along I-35 over the last few weeks.
Shots were fired at a car in the 3700 block of Columbia Drive on June 30, and police would later find that vehicle full of bullet holes. Two of the four people inside the car when shots were fired were hurt, and investigators at the time did not think the shooting was random.
Less than two weeks later, more shots were fired in the 6000 block of Covers Cove nearby, but no injuries were reported.
After taking added measures to prevent another shooting in the residential area, police would arrest Rodrigo I. Lopez, 21, of San Antonio on Thursday around 12:15 p.m. Investigators say this suspect had nine active warrants issued by several agencies, and that does not include a pending charge of Deadly Conduct.
“Lopez was clearly a threat to our communities and the apprehension of this violent offender is due, in part, to the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force,” said Police Chief Jim Lowery. “Working collaboratively with our local, state, and federal partners is paramount in providing service and protecting our communities.”
Lowery confirmed the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest of Lopez.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to call the Schertz Police Department at 210-619-1200.
