Teen shot while trying to elude San Antonio police officer given probation after “no contest” plea for evading arrest charges
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A teenager who was shot by a San Antonio police officer nearly two years ago, has been given probation for a couple of evading arrest charges.
Erik Cantu Jr. is accused of trying to get away from San Antonio police officers on two different occasions in September of 2023.
He pleaded “no contest” to the charges against him Monday.
A judge granted Cantu seven years of deferred adjudication, fined him two-thousand-dollars, required him to serve 200 hours of community service, and suspended his driver’s license.
The Judge also ordered Cantu’s ankle monitor be removed.
Cantu was attempting to get away from an officer in October of 2022 when he was shot.
Former SAPD officer James Brennand will appear in court later this week. he’s being charged with aggravated assault by a public servant.
