SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The death of a teenager has brought the  COVID-19 death toll in Bexar County to 166.  Mayor Ron Nirenberg reported Friday that 1,240 coronavirus patients are in hospitals, lowering the availability of hospital beds to 10 percent.  Four-hundred patients are in intensive care, while 248 are using ventilators.

Nirenberg reported 923 new cases, bringing the total since the pandemic started to 18,602.  He noted that 25 percent of those who have tested positive for the virus are in their 20s.

He also urged people who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma to help patients who are seriously ill. Around 6,100 people in our community have recovered from the virus, and anyone who can donate plasma is asked to contact the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.
