Texas AG questions DOJ investigation of Musk’s voter registration program, accuses Biden of enabling illegal voting

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Election integrity is a hot topic in Texas now that early voting is underway.

There appears to be two different standards for the practice, depending on who you ask.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) says it is investigating a voter registration program that performs outreach to supporters of the First and Second Amendments driven by billionaire Elon Musk. Some Democrat lawmakers say the program is ‘deeply concerning,’ which might be the case when it comes to election results.

Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request for more details on what he calls the department’s attempted intimidation of Musk.

“The Biden-Harris Administration has egregiously weaponized the justice system against political opponents for the past four years,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Now, DOJ is selectively targeting Elon Musk’s voter registration drive while actively undermining States’ efforts to secure elections against noncitizen voters and potential fraud. At every turn, the federal government has become adversarial to States as we work to protect fair elections and the rule of law in this country.”

If voter integrity is the goal on Capitol Hill, some might see it as ironic that the Biden-Harris Administration has refused to cooperate with Texas’ efforts to ensure that noncitizens have not illegally registered to vote in the Lone Star State. Paxton says the Administration is openly hostile toward states with election integrity initiatives to prevent noncitizens from illegally voting.

On October 22, Paxton sued the Administration for refusing to comply with federal law requiring them to assist Texas in verifying the citizenship status of potentially ineligible people registered to vote.
