SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A congressman whose district includes San Antonio says border patrol agents who made derogatory comments on social media about migrants and female lawmakers should be “dismissed.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says an investigation is underway into what it calls “disturbing social media activity” in a secret Facebook group for U.S. Border Patrol agents, but U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett told KTSA News he wants a congressional investigation.

“I think we need an additional congressional investigation of what happened here and a demand for disciplinary action against those who have such a callous attitude toward those who they are supposed to be serving,” said Doggett.

Sexually graphic posts targeting Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and comments questioning the authenticity of a photo of a drowned migrant and his child were posted on the page. Doggett says there should be some serious consequences for those who posted the comments.

“I think some of them need to be dismissed and they certainly need to be shifted to other responsibilities,” said Doggett. “We don’t need people who are so indifferent to the welfare of those who have valid asylum claims here.”
