This is Texas Independence Day

As part of San Antonio’s year-long tricentennial celebration, the Alamo will host a celebration of Texas Independence Day today.

The event will feature student groups performing at 12:30 this afternoon, followed by a ceremony at 1 o’clock.

The program will honor Fox Tech Health and Law Magnet School as the oldest public school in the city of San Antonio.

The Alamo Mission of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will recognize descendants of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Featured speakers include Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Carolina Castillo Grimm, Ph.D. and Roy Barrera, Sr., Fox Tech Vocational High School class of 1944.

The Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted March 2, 1836, marking Texas’ independence from Mexico.
