Texas Men’s Basketball Head Coach arrested for assaulting family member

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Coach of the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team has been arrested for assaulting a family member.

According to a report from CBS Sports, 49 year old Chris Beard was arrested just after 4 A.M. Monday by Austin Police.

He is currently being held at the Travis County Jail on a charge of Assault on Family/Household Member Impede Breath Circulation, which is a 3rd degree felony.

The University of Texas released the following statement early Monday morning:

“The University is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard. We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”

Beard has not posted bond and there’s no word on when he will appear in court.

He is in his second season as head coach of the Longhorns.
