Texas Rangers fire baseball operations head Jon Daniels

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Just days after firing manager Chris Woodward, the Texas Rangers announced Wednesday they have also fired its president of baseball operations, Jon Daniels.

Current general manager Chris Young will assume Daniels’ duties.

In a statement, Rangers majority owner Ray Davis said Daniels has brought a great amount of success to the team in his 17 years of service as general manager and later president of baseball operations.  However, Davis noted the team has not had a winning record since 2016 and have not been competitive in the division in that same time.

The Rangers are currently 3rd in the American League West with a record of 52-64, 22 games behind the division-leading Houston Astros and 9.5 games out of the Wild Card behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
