SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Those Back to School displays are popping up at stores but before you lay out some cash for new clothes and school supplies…. wait.

The state sales tax holiday is coming up next month.

The weekend of tax-free back-to-school purchases is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, August 9th to the 11th.

Certain items priced below 100-dollars will be exempted from the state sales tax.

That includes clothes, shoes, school supplies and backpacks.

The National Retail Federation says on average, parents spend about 670 bucks on back to school necessities… per child.

During the Tax Free Weekend, you’ll save about eight-dollars on every 100-bucks you spend.

The Texas sales tax holiday weekend first started in 1999.   A list of tax exempt items can be found here.
