LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan always thought the story ended when the series ended in 2013.

Then he got to thinking about what happened to Jesse Pinkman, the character portrayed by Aaron Paul. Gilligan says in his mind, Jesse got away clean, but he could not figure out how that could have happened if every law enforcement officer in Albuquerque was looking for him.

Gilligan revisits the story in the Netflix film “El Camino,” out in select theaters and on Netflix on Friday.

Gilligan says fans who were happy with the way the series ended don’t have to see the movie. He says the series and the movie work with each other, but one does not demand the other.
