No one’s ever played the bass on more records, or been recorded on more jazz albums, than Ron Carter, who’s 85 today.

Active since the late ’50s, and on stage just two weeks ago in NYC, Ron Carter has been on over 2,200 records with everyone from Miles Davis to Billy Joel.

Most people outside the jazz world have never heard of him.

But being excellent and steady have made for him a career of dreams.

Some “fifteen minutes of fame” are different than others.

Not everyone can be a “star”.

Ron Carter reminds us, thank God, not everyone has to be.
