There’s a fake Buc-ee’s in the Middle East
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) –Somebody has found the famous Buc-ee’s beaver a long way from home.
Texan Maurice Chammah, a writer for the Marshall Project, was driving on a highway north of Amman, Jordan when he spotted the famous logo with Buc-ee’s beaver mascot on a sign outside a store, complete with a carwash.
He posted a photo on twitter and wrote, “I have so many questions.” Chammah got someone to translate some of the Arabic words on the Buc-ee’s sign, which turned out to be “market,” “coffee,” and “snacks.”
The news about a Buc-ee’s in the Middle East came as quite a surprise to the owner of the convenience store chain based in Lake Jackson, Texas. Arch “Beaver” Aplin III told Texas Monthly it’s “unbelievable.”
Buc-ee’s has more than 30 stores in Texas, and the only one outside the Lone Star State is no further east than Alabama.
Fellow Texans:
I was driving on a highway north of Amman, Jordan, and found a…Buc-ee’s. Or at least, a place claiming to be Buc-ee’s.
I have so many questions.
