Thousands of immigrants wait for processing under International Bridge in Del Rio

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Mayor of Del Rio is saying “I told you so” to the Biden administration as his city deals with a major immigration issue.

In a video posted on social media by KWMC 1490, Mayor Bruno Lozano says thousands of migrants are currently under the International Bridge and he’s asking for help.

“We have 4,000 that have crossed over the Rio Grande with another 20,000 en route to the city of Del Rio.”

Lozano says they are bypassing the Mexican visa program and that he’s been trying to communicate with the Department of Homeland Security to ask for assistance for the Border Patrol.

The immigrants under the bridge are waiting to be detained then processed.

The Mayor says along with the thousands under the bridge another 2,000 to 3,000 are in detention in the Del Rio sector.

“So what is the border patrol, the Del Rio Sector supposed to do with an influx of not just 4,000 but potentially 20,000 migrants that are coming into the Del Rio Sector.”

Lozano says he told the Biden administration back in February that something like this could happen in the Del Rio area and urged the Department of Homeland Security to act quickly to help with the situation under the bridge.
