Threatening text message prompts Poteet ISD lockdown

Another local high school lockdown — this time in Poteet.

Poteet ISD officials say a Poteet High School student received a threatening text message at around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday from a phone number later determined to be a spam number.

The district says the school implemented its crisis plan immediately.

Law enforcement from Poteet ISD police and Poteet City police all the way up to the FBI were notified.

Every district school was put on lockdown and the district perimeter was secured by Atascosa County Sheriff’s deputies.

The lockdown was lifted about an hour later when it was determined there was no longer a threat.

“We encourage all students, parents, and community members to report any and all threats to campus or district administration immediately. In order to minimize panic, please refrain from sharing social media posts that relate to threatening information,” the district posted on Facebook.
