SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Former San Antonio Spurs player Tim Duncan will be returning to the team as an assistant coach.

He is one of the two new coaches on the team, with Will Hardy also being named an assistant coach Monday afternoon.

Duncan is a 1997 Wake Forest University graduate who spent 19 seasons with the Spurs before retiring in 2016.

“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Hardy has been with the team since 2010 when he joined as an intern.

“Will Hardy is a talented, young basketball mind who has earned a great deal of respect from everyone in the organization thanks to his knowledge, spirit and personality,” Popovich said in a statement.
