SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — Tropical Depression Eleven has formed into Tropical Storm Imelda on the Texas Gulf Coast Tuesday.

The National Hurricane Center stated that the tropical depression gained strength and upgraded the storm to tropical storm status at around 12:45 p.m.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with a wind gust of 47 miles per hour in Freeport.

The storm is expected to track to the north and move through the Houston area Tuesday.  It will then continue north into East Texas Wednesday into Wednesday night.

The current forecast expects this storm to drop up to 10 inches of rain in Houston.  An area between Interstate 35 and the Louisiana border is expected to see multiple inches of rain from Tropical Storm Imelda.
