Two dead, one wounded in gang-related shooting near San Antonio police officers

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Two young men are dead following a triple shooting near San Antonio police officers  in the city’s East Side. One person died on the scene Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Hays and Lockhart, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office has confirmed that a second person died at the hospital.   One was 16-years-old, the other was 20.

San Antonio police were investigating a previous incident when the occupants of an SUV shot three young men about 45 yards away Tuesday evening. Chief William McManus says the suspects fired a shot toward officers before driving away. He says the officers didn’t fire back because they didn’t want to risk hitting innocent bystanders.

“We believe very strongly that it’s gang-related,” said the chief.

He says they have a pretty good description of the vehicle and he’s asking people to come forward with any information that could be helpful as the investigation continues. McManus says tipsters can remain anonymous.
