Two NBPD officers on paid leave after shooting aggravated kidnapping suspect

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Two New Braunfels police officers are on paid administrative leave while the Texas Rangers investigate an officer-involved shooting that unfolded yesterday.

The two officers were reportedly attempting to serve 28-year old Aaron Arnaldo Gomez two warrants for felony unlawful possession of a firearm and a parole violation stemming from a 2015 aggravated robbery charge.

Gomez, a resident of New Braunfels, is also the suspect in an ongoing investigation of an aggravated kidnapping that happened Wednesday where a 22-year-old woman was held against her will and a gun was discharged, according to New Braunfels Communications Coordinator David Ferguson.

Gomez was shot by police after he attempted to run the two officers over with a car and officials said he was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Ferguson said the two officers, a 41-year old Sergeant with 11 years with the department and a 32-year old detective with seven years with the department, are on paid leave pending while NBPD conducts an internal administrative investigation and the Texas Rangers finish a criminal investigation.

Police are continuing to investigate and additional charges are pending.

Gomez has a lengthy history that has landed him in the Comal County jail at least seven times since 2011, including in July for a parole violation that landed him on the list of Comal County’s most wanted fugitives.

He was arrested after the public notice was posted July 22. He was booked into the jail and released July 28.
