TxDOT announces I-35 NEX Program lane closures

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is announcing closures connected to the I-35 Northeast Expansion.

The following closures will be in place over the next several days.

Northbound

  • Through Friday, October 4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Multiple lane closures (3) on northbound main lanes and alternating entrance ramps and exit ramp closure of I-35 from Evans Road to Roy Richard Drive (FM 3009) for paving, striping, wall demolition, and barrier work.

Southbound

  • Through Saturday, October 12, long-term closure (24/7). Right lane closure on the southbound frontage road of I-35 from Pawlin Drive to Corporate Drive for roadway work.
  • Through Friday, October 4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Multiple lane closures (3) on southbound main lanes, entrance ramp closure, and exit ramp closure of I-35 from Roy Richard Drive (FM 3009) to Schertz Parkway for paving and barrier work. Traffic should use next entrance and exit ramps.

TxDOT is expanding approximately 20 miles of I-35 from N. Walters Street to FM 1103 in Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties.

The I-35 NEX Program–including Central, South, and North projects – involves the construction of two elevated structures that will carry two general purpose lanes and one HOV lane in each direction.

The elevated structures will be constructed between the existing I-35 main lanes and frontage roads.

The program also includes incidental construction necessary to transition the elevated lanes and connectors with the existing highways including revisions to ramps and frontage roads and accommodations for drainage, utilities, signs, and other highway improvements.
