TxDOT closing interchange of Loop 1604 and I-35 on Northeast Side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Texas Department of Transportation will be closing a major San Antonio interchange through the weekend as part of the ongoing I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) project.

A full closure of the I-35 and Loop 1604 interchange will begin Friday night at 9 p.m. and will continue through Monday morning at 5 a.m.

Detour Information
Loop 1604 westbound to I-35 southbound
All traffic on the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the I-35 northbound mainlanes. Traffic looking to access the SB I-35 mainlanes will utilize Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway and use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road. Traffic should use the next entrance ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes. ​
Loop 1604 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound​
All traffic on the Loop 1604 westbond mainlanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the I-35 northbound mainlanes. Traffic looking to return to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes will utilize Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway and use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road. Traffic should use the next entrance ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes. Traffic can re-enter the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes by continuing to the collector ramp to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes.
I-35 northbound to Loop 1604 westbound
All traffic on the I-35 northbound mainlanes will utilize Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway and use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road. Traffic should use the next entrance ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes. Traffic can enter the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes by continuing to the collector ramp to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is expanding approximately 20 miles of I-35 from N. Walters Street to FM 1103 in Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties.
The I-35 NEX Program–including Central, South, and North projects – involves the construction of two elevated structures that will carry two general purpose lanes and one HOV lane in each direction. The elevated structures will be constructed between the existing I-35 mainlanes and frontage roads.
The program also includes incidental construction necessary to transition the elevated lanes and connectors with the existing highways including revisions to ramps and frontage roads and accommodations for drainage, utilities, signs, and other highway improvements.
