TxDOT: Major highway closures will impact traffic on the Northeast Side Friday through Monday

SAN ANTONIO –(KTSA News) — Traffic at one of the busiest intersections in the region will be tied up more than usual this weekend.

TxDOT says that a series of closures will impact the I-35-Loop 1604 interchange on the Northeast Side beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and lasting through 5 a.m. Monday.

Crews will be installing steel girders for the I-35 Northeast Expansion Project, which means they will have to close the area to traffic.

Here’s what you can expect:

Full closure on the westbound and eastbound main lanes of Loop 1604

Full closure on the westbound and eastbound collector ramps of Loop 1604

Full closure on I-35 southbound to Loop 1604 eastbound connector ramp

Full closure on I-35 northbound to Loop 1604 westbound

To get around the construction, you can use these detours:

Loop 1604 eastbound west of I-35 to Loop 1604 eastbound east of I-35:

All traffic on the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes and follow the signs to exit at the Pat Booker Road exit.

Traffic should stay on the frontage road and turn right to utilize the I-35 Access Road Bridge to reach the I-35 northbound frontage road.

Traffic should stay on the I-35 northbound frontage road to access the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road and continue to the Pat Booker Road intersection.

Traffic should proceed through the intersection and use the next entrance ramp to enter the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes.

Loop 1604 westbound to I-35 southbound:

All traffic on the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the I-35 northbound mainlanes.

Traffic looking to return to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes or access the southbound I-35 mainlanes will utilize Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway and use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road.

Traffic should use the next entrance ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes. Traffic can re-enter the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes by continuing to the collector ramp to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes.

I-35 northbound to Loop 1604 westbound:

All traffic on the I-35 northbound mainlanes will utilize Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway and use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road.

Traffic should use the next entrance ramp to enter the I-35 southbound mainlanes.

Traffic can enter the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes by continuing to the collector ramp to the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes.

I-35 southbound to Loop 1604 eastbound:

All traffic on the I-35 southbound mainlanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the Loop 1604 westbound mainlanes.

Traffic will use the Lookout Road exit and turnaround at the Lookout Road intersection to enter the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road.

Traffic should stay on the frontage road and follow the signs to the I-35 southbound frontage road and Pat Booker Road intersection.

Traffic should continue through the intersection and turn right to utilize the I-35 Access Road Bridge to get to the I-35 northbound frontage road.

Traffic should stay on the I-35 northbound frontage road to access the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road and continue to the Pat Booker Road intersection.

Traffic should proceed through the intersection and use the next entrance ramp to enter the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes.
