SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – After a quarter of a century representing the state’s 13th Congressional District, Mac Thornberry is retiring.

Thornberry released a statement Monday morning announcing that he’s not seeking re-election in 2020.

“It has been a great honor for me to represent the people of the 13th District of Texas for the last 25 years.”

Thornberry represents a district that covers most of the Texas panhandle where voters have a history of strong support for Republican candidates.

In a 2018 mid-term , Thornberry won with 82% of the vote.

Thornberry is the sixth Texas Republican in Congress to decide against reelection.  The others are:

Will Hurd, Pete Olson, Kenny Marchant, Bill Flores and Mike Conaway.
