SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A Virginia woman was arrested for DUI after drinking boxed wine at a Target last week.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy stopped 30-year-old Diana Thorne for a traffic stop after watching her flick burning cigarette material out of her window while driving on a busy U.S. highway.

The office says the deputy immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol.  Thorne’s speech was slurred and the deputy says her eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

The deputy said he saw an empty box of wine inside her car, as well as a full, unopened one.

The sheriff’s office says Thorne admitted to drinking the empty box at a nearby Target.

She was given field sobriety tests and was eventually taken to an area hospital to obtain a blood sample.  The office says Thorne became combative and belligerent in the hospital, ultimately kicking two deputies.

She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, use of abusive language, and throwing an inflammatory object from a vehicle.
