Virtual memorial ceremony honors fallen San Antonio police officers

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) –  Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public memorial ceremony honoring fallen San Antonio police officers was canceled, but Police Chief William McManus said it’s important to remember those who have died in the line of duty, so a virtual ceremony was held.

Bapipes and drums opened the program at the San Antonio Police Department Training Academy in the city’s South Side before McManus spoke.

“Each of the officers that we are here to honor today answered a higher call to serve their community,” McManus said.  “We will forever honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

His remarks were followed by the roll call of fallen officers, 21 rifle volleys, the playing of taps and a police helicopter flyover.

May 15 is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
