Vista Ridge Plan Draws Questions

Councilman Ron Nirenberg wants more oversight of the Vista Ridge deal.

He presented a resolution Wednesday “to ensure that Council would have proper oversight and vetting of changes to the Abengoa Vista Ridge contract before it was finally moved forward,” he said.

Last week, during Mayor Ivy Taylor’s State of the City address, it was announced that the Vista Ridge project ownership had changed hands, from troubled Abengoa to Garney Construction.

“We entered into this discussion of a long-term water supply project on the basis of risk mitigation,” Nirenberg said. “So, I think it’s incumbent upon us to verify that all of those protections of taxpayers are in place.”

That is the key, he said.

“I believe the project is on more stable footing now, but I also believe it’s that much more important that we verify that fact,” he said.

Four other council members supported his resolution.
