SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Uvalde Consolidated School District board was supposed to meet Saturday. Board members planned to fire the embattled Chief of the district’s police department, but that didn’t happen.

Pete Arredondo’s lawyer requested that the meeting be canceled. It seems the attorney wants more time for the two sides to work out his client’s due process rights.

The final decision on Arredondo’s time with the department will be made at a later date.

Uvalde CISD Superintendent Dr. Hal Harrell has informed community members the board is holding its regular meeting at 6:30 P.M. and will offer an update on when they will take up Arredondo’s firing.

Arredondo has been on paid administrative leave since June 22 and resigned form his position on the Uvalde city council earlier this month.

Arredondo has been facing heavy criticism on his failure to act while a 19 year old gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School May 24th.

When the school board meets Monday evening they will discuss other important matters including the construction of a new school to replace Robb Elementary.
