What in the world is going on in Washington State? A housing crisis looms, and instead of fixing the problem for everyone, officials are rolling out a program that blatantly picks favorites. That’s right: if you don’t fit into one of the state’s chosen racial categories, you’re left out in the cold.

The Washington State Housing Finance Commission has launched the Washington Covenant Homeownership Program, aimed at helping folks struggling to buy homes in a market. The plan offers down payment and closing cost assistance through a zero-interest secondary mortgage loan—great, right? But here’s the kicker: it’s only available for specific racial groups: black, Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Other Pacific Islander, Korean, or Asian Indian.

What about the rest of us? Why are some races getting a golden ticket while others are left standing in line? This isn’t just unfair; it’s a blatant violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees all Americans equal protection under the law.

Tune in to hear Andrew Quinio from the Pacific Legal Foundation break it all down and discuss why this approach is not just misguided but downright dangerous for equality in our housing market!
