Woman arrested after investigation finds her 6 year old child died from malnutrition and neglect

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The mother of a 6 year old San Antonio girl who died of neglect and malnutrition is behind bars.

KSAT-12 reports it all started back in October when San Antonio police officers were called to the home of 38 year old Stephanie Jimenez.

She told police that her daughter, named Samantha, had fallen down and hit her head. The child began vomiting and was unresponsive.

That’s when Jimenez called for help.

There were several red flags when the officers arrived. They noticed the girl was underweight, had serious head lice and a lack of hygiene. The child was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Jimenez, who also 5 other children, told police that she would often hide in her bedroom, leaving the children unsupervised for long periods of time.

After the Bexar County Medical Examiner determined Samantha’s cause of death, a warrant for Jimenez’s arrest was issued. She was taken into custody Tuesday.

Charges against her include injury to child-serious bodily injury by omission.

She’s being held on $200,000 bail. Information on where her 5 surviving children are was not released.
