Woman Burned While Helping Kids Escape Fire

A woman is recovering at a hospital after suffering burns to her face and arms while helping her children escape a fire at their home in the near Northwest Side.

There was more smoke than flames  early this morning at the home on West Wildwood near Catalina Avenue.

“We got a call around 3:30 this morning that there was a fire and someone was trying to put it out with a garden hose,” said Woody Woodward with SAFD.

A couple and three children were at the home when a mattress caught fire.

“Two people were treated for smoke inhalation,” said Woodward.


The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor burns.
