15 year old involved in human smuggling operation in South Texas shot while trying to run down Deputy

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A 15 year old boy involved in a human smuggling operation in Kinney County is recovering after he was shot Monday.

Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe reports that the teen was driving a car carrying suspected illegal immigrants in Bracketville early Monday morning.

When law enforcement officials attempted to stop to teen, he tried to run over a deputy.

Deputies then opened fire and the teen was shot.

When the car he was driving stopped, 5 immigrants jumped out and tried to run away. Deputies caught three and are still searching for the other two. The captured immigrants have been turned over to the U.S Border Patrol.

The teenage driver was brought to a hospital in San Antonio and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.
