New report indicates Beto O’Rourke will run for Governor of Texas

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — There’s a new report out claiming former Congressman Beto O’Rourke is going to run for Governor of Texas.

The report from Axios uses sources within the Democratic party who claim O’Rourke will announce his candidacy soon.

The report indicates that O’Rourke has closed the gap with Governor Greg Abbott who has had some struggles with approval ratings lately due to his handling of the pandemic and the state’s new abortion laws.

His former house Chief of Staff tells Axios that while O’Rourke has been making and receiving calls with people all over the state, no decision has been made.

O’Rourke hasn’t been successful in his last two political outings.

He tried to unseat Senator Ted Cruz in 2018, then in 2019 he launched a failed bid for President that limped through a few months before he ending his White House attempt.

The next election for Texas Governor is 2022.
