San Antonio Police: Man arrested, accused of killing his neighbor, then setting body on fire

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man accused of killing his neighbor and then setting the body on fire is under arrest and facing charges.

San Antonio police say 39-year-old Baltazar Castaneda is accused of the February 27 murder that was discovered when officials responded to a house fire.

Investigators say the victim’s body was found near the front door of the burning home.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office found that the victim showed no signs of smoke inhalation, but did show signs of trauma.

Police say video taken from a school security camera nearby showed Castaneda attacking and killing the victim. At that point, investigators say the suspect moved the body inside the home and then set it on fire.

Detectives say Castaneda was also seen taking off his clothes and throwing them in the fire.

After police were able to identify Castaneda as the man in the video, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Castaneda is being charged with murder and is being held on $250,000 bond.
