San Antonio Police: Man says he accidentally shot his mother while investigating noise outside their South Side home

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is investigating what may have been an accidental shooting that killed an elderly San Antonio woman.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Ripford Street at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when a man called in saying he had heard a noise in his backyard. Investigators say the man grabbed his gun before going outside to investigate, but the weapon discharged. Police say the bullet went through the wall of his home and hit his 86-year-old mother in the chest.

EMS arrived and tried to save the woman’s life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no word on what charges the son might be facing.
