SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Beto O’Rourke is defending comments he made during the last Democratic primary debate.

O’Rourke stirred up waves on both sides of the political aisle when he said “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

President Trump sent out a tweet on Wednesday calling O’Rourke a “dummy” for that statement. Trump claims  Beto made it much harder to make a deal and convinced many that Democrats just want to take  guns away.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo gave Beto the chance to clarify his statement. O’Rourke says he fully supports a buyback program on AR-15s and AK-47s..but he does not want his words to be taken out of context.

“I don’t want you or anyone else to get into the fear mongering that some have fallen prey to. Saying the Government is going to come and take all of your guns. What we’re talking about EXCLUSIVELY…
is weapons of war that have no place in our homes, no place on our streets and should remain on the battlefield.”

Beto says when it comes to AR-15’s and AK-47’s the answer is yes, the Government wants those guns but weapons used for hunting or self defense than the answer is, no.

Meanwhile the National Rifle Association has issued a petition. The agency is asking its supporters to say “Hell no” to O’Rourke’s gun buyback plan.
