SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Ground is about to be broken on another phase of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project, and this one is expected to take until 2027 to complete.

Segment 2 of the expansion will focus on the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange.

The Texas Department of Transportation says the plan is to build flyover ramps at the interchange, and also the expansion of Loop 1604 from four lanes to 10, including a high-occupancy lane for both directions. The improvements made in Phase 2 of the expansion come with a price tag of $418 million.

The Loop 1604 North Expansion project is part of the Texas Clear Lanes project, which allocates $1 billion for all five phases of the work.

Additional improvements in the project include modernizing the intersection of Blanco Road and Loop 1604, and adding accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Governor Greg Abbott will be present for a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at 5902 N. Loop 1604 W, San Antonio.
