Report: Austin is No.1 college city in the nation

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Austin is not only the capitol of Texas, but it now ranks as the top destination for college students in a new study.

WalletHub just released its 2023 College and University Rankings, and it factored in numerous metrics over more than 400 cities across the U.S. Given a significant difference in size between that many cities, there were still common dynamics to compare, such as cost of living, academic opportunities and crime rate.

Other Texas cities ranked highly on the list, especially when cities were grouped into three different sizes: Large City, Midsize City and Small City.

Austin came in at number one overall and also in the Large City study, but El Paso and Houston also finished in the Top 20 in that category.

The highest finishers in the Midsize City study were Plano and McAllen, both landing in the Top 25.

College Station not only finished just outside the Top 5 in the Small City study, but also landed at number 15 overall.

The WalletHub study relied on 32 indicators of academic, social and economic opportunities for students. You can view the entire report by clicking here.
