San Antonio police identifies man hospitalized, charged after shootout with five officers

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is releasing the name of a man shot by five officers late Friday night.

SAPD says Isaac Gutierrez, 35, was shot by the officers after they say he fired a gun at them.

In a Monday release, Sergeant Washington Moscoso says police were called to the 100 block of Carranza Street on report of a fight between family members on the Southwest Side. Arriving just after 10:30 p.m., officers say Gutierrez was standing in the doorway of the residence holding a gun.

Knowing there were children inside the house, police tried to get Gutierrez to drop the gun and come outside, but that is when investigators say he raised the gun and fired at the officers.

Police Chief William McManus confirmed at the scene that Gutierrez was hit several times by return fire, and he was then rushed to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

Gutierrez was later booked on the following charges: Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon.

Chief McManus confirmed the officers involved have various experience on the force, three having two years of service, one with five years and another with 13 years.

This is a developing story and KTSA News will give more details when possible.
