Uvalde schools chief surprises community, now officially retired

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Uvalde CISD superintendent Hal Harrell resigned from his post Wednesday night.

Harrell had announced two weeks ago that he would officially retire by the end of the school year or when a replacement is found, whichever came sooner.

However, Harrell made the surprise move at the school board meeting Wednesday to retire effective immediately.

He stated that “no definite timeline” had been set for his retirement.

The school board named Gary Patterson as the district’s interim superintendent as it continues its search for a permanent replacement.
